Every song by the duo Nieuwe Gezichten feels like a band of its own. Over the past few years, Michiel van de Weerd and Arthur van Vliet wrote dozens of songs that were never quite finished. In the studio of Sam van Hoogstraten (AM Sam), they teamed up with singers Bo Menning (Aestrid), Lisa Jonker (Sophie Straat, L.A.J.), Adura Sulaiman (Future Husbands), Joost Steltenpool (De Koorts), and drummer Joep van Osch (Robin Kester) to shape those sketches into four Dutch-language indie songs.

The result is ‘Te Echt’, a debut EP where no two songs sound the same. Each track features a different voice, with melody and vibe serving as the common thread. Nieuwe Gezichten sounds like Alvvays, DIIV, Frank Ocean, and Beach Fossils, after they took Dutch lessons together.

 

And this is only the beginning. Following ‘Te Echt’, Nieuwe Gezichten are already working on their debut album. New songs are waiting for more new faces.
