GITA BUHARI

Since 2014, Dutch-Ghanaian Gita Buhari has been active as a singer-songwriter, artist, and vocalist, creating music that reflects her identity and values. Influenced by artists like Jamila Woods, Lianne La Havas, and Little Dragon, her sound blends neo-soul with alternative and electronic elements.

She gained recognition in 2018 with the single Mariama (with Arjuna Vlasblom), leading to their debut EP Queen of Nothing (2020), praised by outlets like 3FM, ELLE, and Vogue. Her lyrics explore themes of womanhood, bicultural identity, and social justice, as heard in songs like Anger and Broken Woman Blues. Gita has performed at festivals such as Grasnapolski, Motel Mozaique, and Valkhof, and released her audiovisual EP Blood Lily (2023) at Paradiso and BIRD. After many years of mainly working with Arjuna, she now collaborates with artists like Benjamin Fro (Work it Out), Piero Conte (from Antares Flare) and Maria Sanchez Garcia, continually exploring new sounds and emotional depth in her music.
